Eddie’s Feeling Better — Our Kitten’s FIP Treatment Is Working
Eddie’s feeling better — and if you’ve been following along with us, you know exactly how much those three words mean. Our sweet little tabby kitten was diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) about three and a half weeks ago, and this family has been on quite a journey since then. Today’s video is a simple, joyful little moment — Eddie on his back, playing with his feather toy, grabbing and biting at it like the healthy, happy kitten he is meant to be. Dustin even joins in a little at the end because of course he does. But mostly today belongs to Eddie. He is the main character. And we could not be more grateful. 🧡

Let me back up and tell you the whole story, because I want you to understand just how far this little guy has come.
About three weeks after we brought Dustin and Eddie home, we noticed that Eddie was growing rounder in the middle in a sort of strange, concerning way. We took him to the vet and she diagnosed him with FIP — Feline Infectious Peritonitis. If you’re not familiar with FIP, it is a serious illness caused by a coronavirus that affects cats, and until very recently it was almost always fatal. It typically attacks kittens, and Eddie was only seven months old.
They drained two full pounds of fluid off of our tiny little Eddie. He went from weighing almost eight pounds down to six pounds. We began treatment immediately, and he is now about three and a half weeks in — with about eight more weeks to go.
The medicine has been remarkably effective, and watching him transform back into a playful, energetic kitten has been one of the most relieving things I have experienced in a long time. If you want to learn more about FIP and the treatment options now available, visit this website to learn more!
I want to take a moment to brag on our kids, because they have been absolutely incredible through all of this. Our middle schoolers gave up their hot lunches for the rest of the school year to help cover the cost of Eddie’s medicine. They also both agreed not to have big birthday parties. We are cutting costs where we can as a family, and not one of us regrets a single bit of it. Eddie has got to be the sweetest kitty I have ever met. He fits into this family so perfectly, and we could not fathom being without him.
My husband Jason is sweet and a softie — and I say that with all the love in the world — because he is the one who said yes to the treatment when we looked at the cost. And I am so glad he did.
