POV: Neighborhood Watch Duty is Hard on a Sunny Afternoon 😴🐱
In the Longstreth household we take security very seriously — and our two tabby cats Dustin and Eddie take neighborhood watch duty even more seriously. POV: Neighborhood Watch Duty is Hard on a Sunny Afternoon is very much a documentary about real events. These boys are on the job every single day.
Dustin and Eddie have appointed themselves official neighborhood watch officers. Every day they take their post on the back of the sofa, faces pressed to the front window, watching the street with the focused intensity of two highly trained professionals.
“So you just look out the window the whole time?” “Yeah, I guess if you do it right it takes all day.”
Dedicated. Vigilant. Completely committed to their duties.
Until the sun hits the sofa just right. Then all bets are off.
There is something absolutely irresistible about two kittens fast asleep in a sunny window while the whole neighborhood carries on without them. Dustin and Eddie have worked hard. They have earned this nap. We will not question their methods.
What exactly are they watching for? We honestly have no idea. Squirrels, probably. Maybe the mail carrier. Possibly just the general concept of the outside world existing beyond the glass. Whatever it is, they take it very seriously — right up until they don’t.
According to the ASPCA, window watching is one of the most natural and enriching behaviors for indoor cats — it gives them mental stimulation and a way to satisfy their hunting instincts safely. So Dustin and Eddie are not just being dramatic. They are thriving. Our two tabby cats came into the Longstreth house and immediately made themselves completely at home. The sofa is theirs. The sunny spots are theirs. The neighborhood watch is theirs. And honestly? Our whole hearts are theirs too.
This is life with cats in the Longstreth house — and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. See more of their adventures over on the Dustin Has Two Modes post, which is basically the definitive guide to this cat. 🐱☀️
