Peach Mango Iced Tea — My Favorite Summer Drink, Made From Scratch

Jump to Recipe

The Store Stopped Carrying My Favorite Tea, So I Made My Own

This peach mango iced tea started with a small heartbreak: the store stopped carrying my favorite bottled version, and I refused to spend another Florida summer without it. So I figured out how to make my own — and honestly, I think mine turned out better. There’s no fruit to peel and no syrup to cook down, just a few simple ingredients, about two minutes of hands-on prep, and a pitcher of something fruity, lightly sweet, and endlessly refreshing over a big glass of ice.

  5. Chill until cold, then serve over plenty of ice. Garnish with fresh peach or nectarine slices if you like.

Notes

This tea isn’t overly sweet — if you prefer a sweeter drink, use 2 cups of sugar (or more) in place of the 1 1/2 cups. Chill for at least an hour before serving so it’s good and cold.
For extra fun, freeze the leftover nectar into ice cubes — a silicone mini muffin tin works great and they pop right out. And don’t skip the vanilla: you won’t actually taste it, but it gives the whole pitcher a richer, deeper flavor.

Why This Peach Mango Iced Tea Works

The magic of this peach mango iced tea is that it tastes like it took real effort, but it’s mostly just stirring. You steep a strong batch of tea, sweeten it while it’s still hot, then stir in mango and peach nectar, a little lemon juice, and — my secret — a teaspoon of vanilla. No blender, no simmering fruit down into a syrup, no peeling anything.

I make a full gallon because that’s how we drink around here — with seven of us, a pitcher doesn’t last long on a hot afternoon. It comes together fast enough that I can start it before dinner and have it cold by the time we sit down, and it’s pretty enough in the glass that it feels a little special even on an ordinary Tuesday.

The vanilla is the part everyone asks about. You won’t actually taste it — it just rounds everything out and gives the tea a richer, deeper flavor than the sugar and fruit manage on their own. It was the tip that turned my homemade version from “pretty good” into the one I actually reach for.

A Few Things That Make Peach Mango Iced Tea Even Easier

  • Steep strong, then dilute. The 4 cups of hot water make a concentrated tea base — don’t panic that it looks dark. Once you stir in the nectar and cold water up to a gallon, it mellows into exactly the right strength.
  • Sweeten while it’s hot. Stir the sugar in right after steeping, while the tea is still hot, so it dissolves completely instead of settling grainy at the bottom. I measure it out with my Pyrex measuring cups .
  • Make nectar ice cubes. This is the fun one — freeze the leftover mango or peach nectar in a silicone mini muffin pan  and drop those cubes in the glass. They keep the tea from watering down as they melt, and they look gorgeous.
  • Don’t skip the vanilla. One teaspoon, measured with a set of measuring spoons , is all it takes. You won’t taste it on its own, but you’ll miss it if it’s gone.
  • Adjust the sweetness to your crowd. As written it’s lightly sweet. If your people like it Southern-sweet, bump the sugar up to 2 cups (or more) — just stir the extra in while the tea is still warm.

Peach Mango Iced Tea FAQ — The Questions I Get Every Time

How long do I steep the tea for peach mango iced tea?

Steep the family-size tea bags for 15 to 20 minutes in the 4 cups of boiling water. That makes a strong, concentrated base, which is exactly what you want, because it gets diluted with two cups of peach nectar, a cup of mango nectar, and several cups of cold water. Pull the bags when the time is up so the tea doesn’t keep getting stronger and turn bitter.

Where do I find peach and mango nectar?

Check the juice aisle or the international and Latin foods section of your grocery store — that’s where the Jumex nectar I use usually lives, in tall cans. You’ll need 2 cups of peach nectar and 1 cup of mango nectar for a full gallon. Any brand of peach and mango nectar will work, so grab whatever your store carries.

Do I really need the vanilla?

You don’t need it, but I’d never leave it out. A single teaspoon of vanilla extract doesn’t make the tea taste like vanilla — it just deepens and rounds out the fruit so the whole pitcher tastes richer. It’s the little secret that makes people ask what’s in it.

Can I make peach mango iced tea ahead of time?

Absolutely, and it’s even better once it’s good and cold. Make the whole gallon, cover it, and chill for at least an hour — overnight is ideal. It keeps in the fridge for about 4 days, so I’ll often make it the night before a cookout and let it get nice and cold.

How do I keep the tea from turning bitter or cloudy?

Two things do it: don’t steep past 20 minutes, and don’t squeeze the tea bags when you pull them out — squeezing pushes bitter tannins into the tea. For clear tea rather than cloudy, let it cool a bit on the counter before it goes in the fridge instead of shocking it cold. This is the same steep-strong, sweeten-hot, chill-well approach behind a good Southern pitcher — The Kitchn has a great sweet tea walkthrough if you want to see the method laid out.

Can I make it less sweet — or sweeter?

As written, this is a lightly sweet tea, not a syrupy sweet tea. If your crowd likes it sweeter, stir in up to 2 cups of sugar (or more) while the tea is still hot so it dissolves fully. Want it lighter? Drop to a cup of sugar and let the fruit nectar carry more of the sweetness.
