Sourdough Surprise: Someone Sent Me the Sweetest Gift
Sourdough surprise — I was not expecting this, and I am still a little teary about it if I am being completely honest with you. Yesterday a package arrived at my door from Amazon with no return name and no return address. Just a gift. From someone in this community who wanted to cheer me on. Inside were beeswax bread bags to keep my sourdough fresh at home, and a package of paper bread bags with the most precious little “Baked with Love” stickers tucked right inside. I haven’t even baked my first loaf yet. And someone out there already believed in me enough to send me the supplies to share it. I’m blushing just thinking about it. 🥹

I want to tell you what was inside the package because it was just so perfectly chosen. First, there were reusable beeswax bread bags — the kind that keep your bread fresh and are so much better for the environment than plastic bags. I have been thinking about how I am going to store my sourdough once Willynilly is ready to bake, and these are exactly what I needed. And then there was a package of paper bread bags with little labels and the most adorable stickers that say “Baked with Love.”
You have to understand — one of the things I am most excited about in this whole sourdough journey is the idea of handing bread out to my people. My neighbors. My church family. My kids’ friends. Whoever needs a little something from my table. And now I have the most darling little bags and stickers to send it home with them. I cannot even tell you how much that means to me.
I have been on this sourdough journey since the very beginning of March, and the community that has shown up to cheer Willynilly on has just blown me away. The name votes, the tips and advice in the comments, the encouragement every single day — and now this. A gift from a stranger who is somehow already a friend. That is what this is all about.
To whoever sent this — you know who you are, even if I don’t — thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart. I am humbled and grateful and so, so touched. I will use every single bit of it and I will think of you every time I do.
If you would like to get some of these for yourself, I found similar items on Amazon: reusable beeswax bread bags and paper bread bags with labels — and if you’re on a sourdough journey of your own, they make the most thoughtful gift too. 🍞
